Cape Town is in for a derby treat tonight as Engen Santos is set to take on Chippa United for Promotional Playoffs. This will be the first leg encounter between the Cape Town based teams in a two–legged round robin set up.
The People’s Team started their campaign with a first leg win away to Thanda Royal Zulu, placing them top on the Playoffs mini league. Chippa United and Thanda Royal Zulu played to a stalemate last Saturday leaving them both with a point each.
Mart Nooij’s charges are ready and eager to defend their place in the Premier division.
“I feel confident, the players have been working hard and everyone in the club wants to put an end to a bad run that has been going on for almost 2 seasons now. I believe that change is necessary for the club and I’m willing to help in every aspect to bring a positive change,” said the Dutch man.
The Lansdowne based outfit went to watch their opponents, Chippa United and Thanda Royal. “I don’t watch matches to compare or gauge opponents because every game is different, I only focus on my team’s preparations but I think it was a good exercise for the players to go and watch as a team to help them refocus and understand what is at stake. It is very important to not be arrogant or complacent, we have a strong team and we need to show that we belong and deserve to play in the PSL,” added Nooij.
Captain Tyren Arendse said the mood in the camp is high and that they know a win against Chippa would give them an added advantage. He also reiterated his coach’s views “I think it was a good initiative to go and watch the Chippa vs Thanda game as a team, at least we had the opportunity to have a look at them and see how they play, but I must just add that it will be a totally different game when we play Chippa.”
“Whenever we play teams from Cape Town it's always a tough game and they are highly motivated, so we must be prepared. As much as they are fighting to get into the PSL, we are also fighting for our status, so a lot is at stake,” said Arendse.
The game will be played at Athlone Stadium tonight kick off is at 19H30. Tickets are available at the game, R40 per adult and R10 per child under the age of 12. Gates open at 18H00.
