Santos stand-in coach Duncan Crowie says it was the same old story for his side as they succumbed to a 1-0 home loss to Free State Stars on Wednesday.
Crowie was on the bench after head coach Mart Nooij was taken ill overnight and hospitalised for observation.
An early goal from Dove Wome did the damage and leaves Santos a point behind Black Leopards and safety, though they have now played two games more than Lidoda Duvha.
“It was the same story as the previous game against Mamelodi Sundowns,” Crowie said. “We started slowly and only really found our cohesion in the second half.
“We had four or five really good chances to score and maybe luck was not on our side tonight. That is what happens when you are at this end of the table, things go against you.
“We now need to win our final two matches I think and we are concentrating only on that, what happens to other teams is out of our control.”
Santos’ final two games of the campaign are away at AmaZulu and home to doomed Jomo Cosmos.
