The idea of the Academy is to develop the player holistically and all involved play according to a philosophy adopted by the club.
All the coaches at the club are well qualified and have at least attended a Level One coaching course under the auspices of SAFA.
The Youth Department is divided into three categories:
1.The Academy section
Players are recruited for the academy via trials which are conducted at the end of each youth season.
Throughout the season our scouting network scouts around for potential who are then invited to train with our teams.
2.The B- Section
Nobody at the club is ever asked to leave the club due to not being good enough. If a player has lost form and needs to regain it by getting more game time he will then be asked to play in the B-section.
On the other hand players in the B-section that prove themselves to be good enough for the academy teams will then be promoted.
3.Social Outreach Programme
We have adopted a school in Langa, Zimasa Primary, to be part of our Youth set-up.
The academy coaches coach at the school and assist when necessary. This section is run on the same level as our B-section.
All these youth teams are affiliated to the Mitchells Plain LFA and play their games on different Mitchells Plain sport grounds over weekends.
Santos School Programme
The coaches in the youth department are also involved in a school coaching programme.
They coach at schools in the area on a weekly basis and in total are busy in 42 schools at the moment.
Our youth department is arguably one of the biggest Academies in the country and currently consists of 23 teams:
Two under 7 teams, Two under 9 teams, Three under 11 teams, Four under 13 teams, Three under 15 teams, Two under 17 teams, One under 19 team, One First division team, One Super League team, One Castle League team, One Reserve Team and Two Ladies teams
All in all we have close to 400 registered members in the youth department.
